According to the mythological accounts, Tripurasura was born as a result of the union between the sage Jamadagni and his wife Renuka. He was raised by the demon Tarakasura, who instilled in him the desire for power and conquest. With Tarakasura’s guidance, Tripurasura performed intense penance and obtained a boon from Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. This boon granted him the ability to create three flying cities, made of gold, silver, and iron respectively, which could only be destroyed by a single arrow. With his newfound powers, Tripurasur became arrogant and tyrannical, wreaking havoc on the world and causing suffering to both humans and gods.
Empowered by this boon, Tripurasur became increasingly arrogant and tyrannical, using his flying cities to wreak havoc on the world and torment both humans and gods. Feeling threatened by Tripurasur’s reign of terror, the gods sought the intervention of Lord Shiv, the destroyer in the Hindu trinity, to vanquish the demon.
The battle between Lord Shiv and Tripurasur is often depicted as a cosmic struggle, with Tripurasur wielding great weapons and employing magical powers to defend himself. Lord Shiv, riding his divine mount Nandi (the bull), engaged Tripurasur in a fierce combat that lasted for a long time.
In the final confrontation, Lord Shiv unleashed his supreme weapon, the Pashupatastra, a divine arrow capable of annihilating any foe. With the powerful arrow, Lord Shiv destroyed the three flying cities (Tripuras) of Tripurasur, thus vanquishing the demon and restoring peace and harmony to the universe.
