The Vaishnava Agamas are a category of scriptures within the Vaishnavism tradition, which centers around the worship of Lord Vishnu and his various incarnations. These Agamas provide guidelines for rituals, temple construction, worship, and philosophical teachings within the Vaishnava tradition.

These are scriptures followed by the Vaishnavism tradition, which centers around the worship of Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. Vaisnava Agamas guide devotees in the worship of deities like Vishnu, Lakshmi, and others.

Two main subcategories of Vaishnava Agamas are the Pancharatra Agamas and the Vaikhanasa Agamas.

  1. Pancharatra Agamas:
    • The Pancharatra Agamas are a significant group of texts within the Vaishnavism tradition. They are associated with the worship of Lord Vishnu and prescribe detailed rituals, temple construction, and devotional practices. The Pancharatra Agamas emphasize the concept of five modes of worship, focusing on five aspects of the deity.

    Some key Pancharatra Agamas include:

    • Ahirbudhnya Samhita
    • Paushkara Samhita
    • Parama Samhita
    • Lakshmi Tantra
    • Narada Pancharatra
  2. Vaikhanasa Agamas:
    • The Vaikhanasa Agamas are another set of scriptures within Vaishnavism, providing guidelines for temple worship and rituals. The Vaikhanasa tradition is known for its specific rules and rituals, particularly those related to the construction and consecration of temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

    Some key Vaikhanasa Agamas include:

    • Ahirbudhnya Samhita (same name as in Pancharatra, but different text)
    • Kriyayogasara
