The Discovery of Agni

The creation of our universe started with one fundamental principle of Brahman. Our universe works on this concept. Every small element works towards running the universe. From all the basic elements like Fire (Agni), Water (Jal) etc. work towards maintaining our universe. When civilization started the community understood the importance of maintaining harmony between the natural elements and the human race.

It was understood that the element of Fire (Agni) can help purify the atmosphere and build a perfect harmony between all the elements, nature and civilization. The process of Yajna came into existence with this concept.

Agni or Fire is understood and worshiped in different ways across the subcontinent of India. There are variations in the way people address Agni but the essence remains the same. Agni is considered a super power in the Hindu culture which has the capacity to purify the society as well as our actions. The most popular forms of Agni worshipped across the Hindu culture are Lightning, the heat of Sun and Fire.

In the Vedas, the God of Fire is called Agni. The God is characterized with two heads, one represents immortality and the other represents a symbol of life.

The Significance of Agni in our Lives

The concept of Agni and the God Agni is so important to the culture and religion of Hinduism that the word Agni is the beginning of the first hymn of the Rigveda, the first of the four Vedas. The importance of Agni is most felt by the practices of rituals by the civilizations over the centuries.

The element of Agni is worshipped through the practice of Yajna to celebrate rituals and send across messages and sacrifice to please the gods. The concept of Yajna which is centered around Agni is important for celebrating the most important ceremonies from weddings to cremations to festivals like Holi.

The element of Agni adds more purity and a layer of pious bliss to our lives.

Agni through the concept of Yajna is used for almost every occasion at the beginning or the end to add more blessings from the gods to our special occasions. One of the most common practices which involves intensive use of Agni is during many Yajnas which are done for various purposes like weddings, housewarming and many more rituals conducted to improve the quality of our lives, health, relationships, career and many more.

Another important aspect of our lives where Agni plays an important part is during festivals like Holi and Lohri where a big fire is created to take away all the impurities from our lives. The story of Holika Dahan is celebrated by creating a huge bonfire to take away all our fears and impurities surrounding our lives.
