Shree Suktam

Prayer for Goddess Lakshmi, who shines like gold, wearing gold and silver garlands, blooming like the moon and the embodiment of wealth. A genuine prayer asking Goddess Lakshmi to endow us with great wealth, health and prosperity.

“Shree Suktam” is a revered Vedic hymn dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, prosperity, and well-being in Hinduism. This hymn is found in the Rigved and is considered an important part of Hindu liturgical tradition, often recited to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and protection from financial distress.

Meaning and Significance

The “Shree Suktam” is a prayer that glorifies Goddess Lakshmi and seeks her blessings for prosperity, abundance, and spiritual well-being. Here are some key themes and meanings of the verses:

  1. Glory of Lakshmi: The hymn begins by describing the radiant and golden appearance of Goddess Lakshmi, symbolizing her association with wealth and prosperity.
  2. Invocation of Blessings: It invokes the presence of Lakshmi in the lives of devotees, asking for wealth, cattle, horses, and virtuous offspring.
  3. Protection from Misfortune: The verses seek protection from misfortunes and poverty, personified by the goddess Alakshmi.
  4. Fertility and Abundance: The hymn appeals for fertility and agricultural abundance, ensuring that the devotee’s household is always flourishing.
  5. Divine Grace: It emphasizes the importance of divine grace for personal and communal prosperity.

“Shree Suktam” is often recited during Lakshmi Puja, especially during festivals like Diwali, when Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wealth and prosperity. Devotees chant it with devotion and reverence, sometimes performing specific rituals such as lighting lamps, offering flowers, and making offerings of food and sweets to the deity.
