Shiv Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotra

The Shiv Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotra is a revered hymn dedicated to the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are sacred shrines of Lord Shiv spread across India. Each Jyotirlinga represents a different manifestation of Shiv and holds significant spiritual importance.

The hymn extols the greatness and divine attributes of these twelve Jyotirlingas, seeking blessings and protection from Lord Shiv. Here’s a brief overview of the twelve Jyotirlingas mentioned in the stotra:

  1. Somnath in Gujarat: The first Jyotirlinga, symbolizing the Moon God.
  2. Mallikarjun in Andhra Pradesh: Located on Shri Shaila Mountain by the Krushna River.
  3. Mahakaleshwar in Madhya Pradesh: Known for its unique south-facing idol.
  4. Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh: Situated on an island in the Narmada River.
  5. Kedarnath in Uttarakhand: Located in the Himalayas, accessible only during certain months due to harsh weather.
  6. Bhimashankar in Maharashtra: Associated with the legend of Lord Shiv destroying the demon Tripurasur.
  7. Kashi Vishwanath in Uttar Pradesh: Situated in Varanasi, one of the holiest cities for Hindus.
  8. Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra: Near the source of the Godavari River.
  9. Vaidyanath in Jharkhand: Believed to be a place where Ravan worshipped Shiv.
  10. Nageshwar in Gujarat: Associated with the legend of a demon named Daruka.
  11. Rameshwar in Tamil Nadu: Located on Rameswaram Island, linked to Lord Ram’s devotion.
  12. Grishneshwar in Maharashtra: Near the Ellora caves, symbolizing the end of the Jyotirlinga pilgrimage.

The stotra praises these holy sites, emphasizing their divine power and the blessings they bestow upon devotees who visit and worship there. Reciting the Shiv Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotra is believed to bring spiritual enlightenment, protection, and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
