Shani Stotra

The Shani Stotra is a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Shani (Saturn), composed by Sage Pippalada. he hymn continues with salutations to these forms, emphasizing reverence and seeking blessings. It highlights the importance of daily recitation, particularly in the morning, to invoke Shani’s grace, alleviate suffering, and ensure peace, health, and prosperity.

The Shani Stotra is a powerful hymn dedicated to Lord Shani (Saturn), composed by Sage Pippalada. The stotra begins with the mention of ten names of Lord Shani:

  1. कोणस्थ (Konastha) – He who resides in the angle
  2. पिंगल (Pingala) – Tawny-colored
  3. बभ्रु (Babhru) – Brownish
  4. कृष्ण (Krishna) – Dark
  5. रौद्र (Raudra) – Fierce
  6. अंतक (Antaka) – End-bringer
  7. यम (Yama) – Controller of death
  8. सौरी (Sauri) – Son of the Sun
  9. शनिश्चर (Shanishchara) – Slow-moving
  10. मंद (Manda) – The slow one

It is said that reciting these ten names every morning will prevent suffering caused by Shani.

Sage Pippalada then praises Lord Shani with the following salutations:

  • Salutations to you who reside in the angle (Konastha) and to you, Pingala.
  • Salutations to you in the form of Babhru and Krishna.
  • Salutations to you with a fierce body and to you, the end-bringer (Antaka).
  • Salutations to you who are known as Yama and the powerful Sauri.
  • Salutations to you who are known as Manda and Shanishchara.

The stotra ends with a plea for Lord Shani’s grace, requesting him to bestow his blessings on the humble and devoted.

The stotra emphasizes that this hymn should be recited every morning to invoke the blessings of Lord Shani and mitigate his malefic influences, thereby ensuring peace, health, and prosperity. The stotra ends with a plea for Lord Shani’s favor, requesting him to be compassionate towards the humble and devoted.

कोणस्थ: पिंगलो बभ्रु:कृष्णौ रौद्रोंतको यम: ।
सौरी: शनिश्चरो मंद:पिप्पलादेन संस्तुत:।

एतानि दशनामानि प्रातरुत्थाय य: पठेत ।
शनैश्चरकृता पीड़ा न कदाचित भविष्यति ।

पिप्पलाद उवाच ।

नमस्ते कोणसंस्थाय पिंगलाय नमोस्तुते ।
नमस्ते बभ्रुरूपाय कृष्णायच नमोस्तुते ।।१।।

नमस्ते रौद्रदेहाय नमस्ते चांतकाय च ।
नमस्ते यमसंज्ञाय नमस्ते सौरये विभो ।।२।।

नमस्ते मंदसंज्ञाय शनैश्चर नमोस्तुते ।
प्रसादं कुरु देवेश दीनस्य प्रणतस्य च ।।३।।

हे स्तोत्र नित्य प्रात:काळी पठण करावे।
