Pandurangashtakam

The Pandurangashtakam is a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Panduranga, a form of Lord Krushna who is worshipped primarily in the state of Maharashtra, India. Lord Panduranga, also known as Vithoba or Vitthal, is the presiding deity of the famous temple in Pandharpur.

The Pandurangashtakam holds profound spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Panduranga (Vithoba), the presiding deity of the temple in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. Composed of eight verses, this hymn extols the divine attributes, glory, and the compassionate nature of Lord Panduranga, who is considered an incarnation of Lord Krushna. Reciting the Pandurangashtakam with devotion is believed to invoke the deity’s blessings, bringing peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment to the devotees. The hymn emphasizes the supreme nature of Panduranga, portraying Him as the ultimate reality and a source of joy and salvation. By venerating the deity through this ashtakam, devotees express their reverence, seek protection, and cultivate a deeper connection with the divine, reinforcing their faith and devotion. The Pandurangashtakam thus serves as a powerful medium for expressing devotion and achieving spiritual progress, encapsulating the essence of Bhakti (devotional worship) towards Lord Panduranga.  Pundalik is celebrated as the quintessential devotee whose unwavering service to his parents and devotion to God brought Lord Panduranga to Pandharpur. The very existence of Lord Panduranga’s idol standing on a brick is a direct consequence of Pundalik’s devoutness.
