The Chandi Path, also known as the Devi Mahatmyam or Durga Saptashati, is a Hindu religious text from the Markandeya Purana.  Durga Saptashati 7th Chapter explains Chand & Mund Vadh – Killing of demons Chand and Mund.

The Chandi Path, also known as the Devi Mahatmyam or Durga Saptashati, is a Hindu religious text from the Markandeya Puran.  In the 7th chapter of the Durga Saptashati, known as “Chand and Mund Vadh,” the narrative focuses on the fierce battle between the demon Mahishasur’s generals, Chand and Mund, and the goddess Durga. Chand and Mund, who are powerful and formidable warriors, challenge Durga with their immense strength and confidence. However, Durga, embodying the collective power of the gods, confronts them fearlessly. She engages in a relentless battle, displaying her divine prowess and wielding celestial weapons with unmatched skill.

During the intense combat, Durga manifests various forms of herself, each radiating immense energy and determination. Chand and Mund, despite their best efforts and magical abilities, are ultimately no match for Durga’s divine strength and strategy. With her unparalleled valor and divine weapons, Durga defeats Chand and Mund decisively, marking a significant victory in her quest to eliminate the forces of evil.

The chapter concludes with praises from the gods and celestial beings, acknowledging Durga’s supremacy and her role as the protector of dharma (righteousness). The killing of Chand and Mund highlights the overarching theme of the triumph of good over evil, showcasing Durga as the ultimate symbol of divine power and justice in Hindu mythology.
