Parashari Astrology

Parashari astrology, also known as Parashara Jyotisha, is one of the oldest and most widely practiced systems of Vedic astrology.

It is named after the sage Parashara, who is credited with composing several important texts on astrology, including the “Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra” (BPHS). The BPHS is a foundational text that provides a comprehensive guide to various aspects of astrology.

Key features and principles of Parashari astrology include:

  1. Planetary Periods (Dasha System): Parashari astrology primarily uses the Vimshottari Dasha system, a cycle of planetary periods that unfolds over a person’s life. Each major period, or Mahadasha, is associated with a specific planet, and each Mahadasha is subdivided into smaller periods called Antardashas.
  2. Nakshatras and Rashis: The system places significant importance on the Nakshatras (lunar mansions) and Rashis (zodiac signs). The placement of planets in these Nakshatras and Rashis is considered during astrological analysis.
  3. Bhavas (Houses): The astrological chart is divided into twelve Bhavas or houses, each representing different areas of life. The planetary positions in these houses are crucial for predictions.
  4. Yogas and Doshas: Parashari astrology identifies specific combinations of planets (Yogas) and unfavorable planetary placements (Doshas) that can influence a person’s life. Some Yogas are considered auspicious, while Doshas may indicate challenges.
  5. Transits: The movement of planets through the zodiac signs is analyzed to make predictions about short-term influences on individuals and the world.
  6. Astrological Remedies: Parashari astrology often includes guidance on remedies, which can include gemstone recommendations, rituals, and prayers, to mitigate the effects of challenging planetary influences.

Parashari astrology is widely practiced in India and among practitioners of Vedic astrology worldwide. It provides a detailed and systematic approach to analyzing a person’s birth chart and predicting life events based on the positions of planets at the time of birth. However, it’s important to note that astrology, including Parashari astrology, is a belief system and not scientifically proven. Interpretations may vary among practitioners, and individuals may choose to embrace or dismiss astrological insights based on their personal beliefs.
