Located in the picturesque district of Ramanathapuram District, Rameshwaram is beautiful and peaceful beyond imagination. One needs to visit the place to experience the serenity and pious aura of the place. Rameshwaram lies a little away from mainland India.

It is situated on Pamban Island. One of the most defining and popular belief about Rameshwaram lies in the fact that Rameshwaram was the starting point of the Ram Setu, which led Lord Ram to Sita, who was under captivity of Ravan.

Rameshwaram attracts devotees and tourists from around the world. People travel long distances to visit this place of immense importance in the Hindu culture. Rameshwaram has several pieces of evidence which prove that the epic battle between Lord Rama and Ravan actually happened. One of the most popular and exciting evidences of the epic of Ramayana can be noticed by the floating rocks that are present in Rameshwaram. These rocks are said to have been used to build a bridge so that Lord Rama could reach the palace of Ravan.

These stories would have remained unverified but due to the presence of various relics and evidence in Rameshwaram, one starts believing the pious aura of the place. The abundance of different relics proves the occurrence of the epic of Ramayan.
This is why Rameshwaram holds a very deep and significant place in the culture of Hinduism and mythology.

One of the most important and pious place of Hindu culture is present in Rameshwaram. The Ramanathaswamy Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga and it is present in Rameshwaram. This temple is a very important place of worship of Lord Shiva. This makes Rameshwaram even more special in the Hindu culture.

Another important feature of Rameshwaram is that it is one of the four places which are considered holy, according to Hinduism. It is said that the pilgrimage is incomplete if one does not visit Rameshwaram.

The architecture present in Rameshwaram and especially the architecture of the temples in Rameshwaram amplifies the connection with the divine. The architecture of Ramanathaswamy temple indicates Dravidian style of architecture. The design is crafted in such a way that it will maximize the devotion and pious quotient in the premises.

The place, Rameshwaram holds a special place in the Hindu culture because of many legendary actions of Lord Ram. After defeating and killing Ravan, Lord Ram tried to atone in Rameshwaram. During this time, Sita built a Shivalinga which later came to be known as Ramanathaswamy temple.
