Samvartana is twelth of sixteen sanskaras, and it is situated just before Vivah Sanskar. One of the significant events of a person’s life is his transition from the student to the family phase. And this ceremony signifies that event beautifully.

In this ritual, the student’s graduation ceremony is celebrated to proclaim that he is now a well-learned person who is ready to step into the real world, build a career and get married.

During ancient times, students used to leave their parent’s house and start their student phase in an ashram under the guidance of their guruji. They were supposed to follow Balbramhcharya’s Vrat throughout their student phase. And after getting twelve years of education, students and teachers used to celebrate the convocation ceremony through Vedic methods and by inviting family and friends.

The teacher is supposed to ask for any Guru Dakshina as he likes, and the student has to give him in a requested time. Samvartana also includes Havana and a sacred bath ceremony for students to seek blessings from Guruji and divine energies for the upcoming life.

Samvartana is an ancient Hindu ceremony for allowing a person to move out from his ashram and Balbrahmachrya’s Vrat and start his grihastha life with whatever he had learned in his student phase.
