The Story of Maa Kushmanda

Before the universe existed, everything was covered in darkness (nothingness). There was no life, no planets, and no light. It is believed that Maa Kushmanda smiled, and from her divine radiance (ushma), the entire universe was created. Her name is derived from:

  • Ku = Little

  • Ushma = Energy/Heat

  • Anda = Cosmic Egg

This signifies that she created the universe from a small cosmic egg.

After creating the universe, Maa Kushmanda filled it with light, life, and energy. She then created the Sun, which provides warmth and sustains all living beings. Because of this, she is also known as the Adiswarup (the original form of energy).

She is depicted with eight arms, holding a chakra, bow, arrow, kamandalu (water pot), lotus, mace, and rosary, and she rides a lion, symbolizing her immense power.

As per the Hindu mythology, Kushmanda is believed to be the embodiment of the divine energy that sustains the universe. She is associated with the Anahata Chakra or the heart chakra, which represents love, compassion, and harmony.

Why Do We Worship Maa Kushmanda During Navratri?

  4. She Boosts Energy and Well-being
