Who was Kans?

Kansa, also spelled as Kamsa, was a major antagonist in Hindu mythology, who is widely known for his evil deeds and cruelty. According to Hindu texts, Kansa was the king of Mathura and the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna, a major deity in Hinduism.

It was prophesied that Kansa would be killed by the eighth child of his sister, Devaki. In order to prevent this prophecy from coming true, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva and killed their first six children as soon as they were born.

However, when Lord Krishna was born as the eighth child of Devaki, Vasudeva was miraculously able to take him to safety and leave him with his foster parents, Nanda and Yashoda in Vrindavan. Lord Krishna grew up in Vrindavan and eventually returned to Mathura to challenge his evil uncle Kansa.

After a series of events, including Lord Krishna killing several of Kansa’s associates, Kansa finally challenged Lord Krishna to a wrestling match. During the match, Lord Krishna overpowered Kansa and killed him, thus fulfilling the prophecy and restoring peace to Mathura.
